dfs Crufts Qualifiers come to Exeter for 60th Anniversary show

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing approximately 6,500 dogs entered in the 60th Anniversary of the Paignton and District Fanciers Association Championship Dog Show at Westpoint, Exeter.

Over 160 different breeds of pedigree dogs will compete on from 2 – 4 August for the ultimate ‘Best in Show’ prize and for a chance to take part in the world’s largest dog show, dfs Crufts.

The show is one of 38 General Championship Dog Shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for dfs Crufts.

Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups. On Monday 2 August, visitors can see the Pastoral, Working and Terrier groups being judged, with the Gundog and Utility groups on Tuesday 3 August, before the Hound and Toy breeds round off the show Wednesday 4 August. The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Wednesday. To find out which group your favourite breed is in, please visit www.thekennelclub.org.uk/breedhealth.

This year, the Kennel Club will have a stand at the show, with staff on hand to answer any enquiries, and to help newcomers find out how they can get involved in dog showing. There will also be Young Kennel Club handling classes and YKC Special Stakes as well as Open Obedience on the Wednesday and seminars throughout the show focusing on stewarding.

Show Secretary, Mrs Hodsol said “We are looking forward to a great 60th Anniversary Show - we have commemorative gifts for all of the Best of Breed winners and there is also lots going on for all of the family for a great day out.”

Entry is free but visitors are requested to leave their own dogs at home as non-competing dogs are not permitted into the event. Dogs must not be left in cars at the show.
