The Young Kennel Club has announced the winners of its sixth annual Young Kennel Club Artist of the Year competition, which will be presented at the world’s greatest dog event, Crufts 2014.
The annual art competition run by the Young Kennel Club (YKC) has seen a bumper entry, with members’ creativity and talent clearly inspired by this year’s theme, ‘Dogs on Holiday’. The winning images will be on display in the YKC area in Hall 3 at Crufts from March 6th – 9th at the NEC, Birmingham.
The overall winner, 12 year old Charlotte Westerman from Sadberge, Darlington entered a simple but endearing painting of her Miniature Pinscher, Rita ‘braving the German Alps’, which really captured the sense of the competition. Judge, Kennel Club Art Gallery consultant, Paul MacBeth said: “Charlotte’s image just stood out completely – it just looked wonderful. It was very natural and easy on the eye and the use of just a few colours was particularly clever.
“The standard on display across the board was fantastic, irrespective of the age of those involved. It was very difficult to choose the winners of the other categories as there were so many lovely images to pick between.”
As well as having their art work on display at the world’s greatest dog show, all age group winners will receive a bumper artist gift set and YKC goodies. As the overall winner, Charlotte will also receive free YKC membership and tickets to Crufts for her family.
