Toy Group won by King Charles Spaniel at Crufts 2013

Beating thousands of other dogs, Theo (Ch Maibee Theo), a King Charles Spaniel from Chopwell, Tyne and Wear has qualified for the final of Crufts after winning Best in Group for the Toy Group today (Friday March 8th).

Theo, 4, who was handled tonight by Tanya Ireland and owned by William Moffat and Joyce Robins, will now compete for the prestigious title of Best in Show on Sunday against just six other dogs at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham. More than 20,000 dogs are competing over the four days of the show for the chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.

Tanya and Theo will be returning to the NEC Arena on the evening of Sunday March 10th for the highly anticipated Crufts 2013 final. Only seven dogs make it all the way through to the final, which will be watched by thousands in the arena and millions more worldwide as it will be televised live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube Channel -

Proud handler Tanya said: “This is for Sheila Walters, the lady who bred him who died last year. He is such a special little dog, he’s never let me down and it’s all thanks to her. He’s the first King Charles Spaniel to do this, so I know we will have all the other King Charles enthusiasts behind us.

It was emotional in the ring thinking of Sheila. I wore my lucky waistcoat, it has holes and is covered in hair but I will be wearing it with pride on Sunday.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We were delighted to see Theo chosen as the Group winner today. He is such a lovely dog that clearly loves being in the show ring and has a great relationship with his handler.

“Reaching the Best in Show final at Crufts is a fabulous achievement for any dog, and we wish Theo the very best for the final. I’m sure that all of Tyne and Wear will be tuning in to Channel 4 and rooting for them to win on Sunday evening.”
