Martha, a Whippet from Isleham, near Ely in Cambridgeshire, won the Junior Warrant Winner of the Year competition final at Crufts on 6th March. Martha, owned by Jane Wilton-Clark, is two years old but has already done extremely well in the show ring despite her young age.
The Junior Warrant is an award for pedigree dogs from the ages of 6 to 18 months which have won a series of first prizes at both Open and Championship dog shows. Sponsored by Omega 3 Aid for Dogs, the final was judged by Carla Molinari from Portugal.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “Congratulations to Martha and her owner, Jane on their wonderful achievement. The Junior Warrant is one of the highest levels of success for young pedigree dogs and a great indicator of a wonderful showing career to come for these dogs. We will no doubt see a lot more of Martha in the future.”
The Junior Warrant Winner of the Year Competition is held annually and is for dogs which have gained the title of Junior Warrant during the previous year. There were 12 heats held throughout the UK in August and September, with five dogs and a reserve selected by the judge at each of the heats. These dogs were then invited to the semi-finals at the Kennel Club’s Discover Dogs event at Earls Court, London, where ten finalists were selected.
