Crufts 2012 qualifiers come to Exeter

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing over 6,000 dogs and their owners as they take part in the Paignton & District Fanciers Association Championship Dog Show next week at Westpoint, Clyst St Mary, Exeter.

More than 160 breeds will compete for the ultimate 'Best in Show' prize and for a chance to compete at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.

Paignton & District is one of 37 Group and General Championship Dog Shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for next year’s Crufts.

Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups. On Monday 1st August, visitors can see the Pastoral, Working and Terrier groups being judged, followed by the Gundog and Utility groups on Tuesday 2nd August, and the Hound and Toy groups on Wednesday 3rd August. The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Wednesday. To find out which group your favourite breed is in, please visit

Any Variety Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme (GCDS) Stakeswill be held on each day. The Stakes are open to all GCDS Bronze achievers (as of show closing date) and offer prize money of 1st £50, 2nd £25, 3rd £10 and 4th £5.

The day promises to be a fantastic and entertaining experience for all dog lovers. Show Secretary, Aileen Hodsoll says of the popular annual show: “There is lots going on for all of the family for a great day out.”

Entry is free but visitors are requested to leave their own dogs at home as non-competing dogs are not permitted into the event. Dogs must not be left in cars at the show and the show organisers emphasise that any dogs found at risk in cars may lead to forcible entry to the vehicle without liability for damaged caused.
