Cocker Spaniel agility star wins Kennel Club Novice Cup at Crufts

Alfee, a three year old Cocker Spaniel and owner Lara Staplehurst from West Ewell, Surrey have won the Kennel Club Novice Cup for medium dogs at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts on Thursday 7th March.

Lara aged 25 and Alfee (KC name Alfee's Surprise) won in the medium category after competing in both jumping and agility. They had the fewest combined faults in the fastest combined time, calculated over the two rounds of the final.

The top eight large, four medium and four small dogs from the Novice Cup competition (Grades 3, 4 or 5) held at the KC International Agility Festival last August took part in the finals on Thursday at Crufts.

Proud owner Lara said: “This is my first time at Crufts and I’m very proud of Alfee. He was quite nervous at first so I was so pleased he did so well on the day. We’ve been training for about two years together and all the hard work has paid off.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “The Novice Cup is a special event and just to qualify for a Crufts final is a wonderful achievement.
“We would like to congratulate Alfee and Lara. He is such a lovely dog that clearly loves competing and has a great relationship with his handler.”

Crufts takes place from 7 - 10 March 2013 at the NEC, Birmingham. For more information visit
