Lampard, a Skye Terrier from Swadlincote, wins group at Crufts and makes it through to live Channel 4 final
Beating thousands of other dogs, Lampard (Ch Salena the Special One), a Skye Terrier from Swadlincote, Derbyshire has qualified for the final of Crufts after winning Best in Group for the Terrier group today (Thursday March 7th).
Lampard, 3, who is owned and bred by Sue Breeze, a Kennel Club Assured Breeder, will now compete for the prestigious title of Best in Show on Sunday against just six other dogs at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham. More than 20,000 dogs are competing over the four days of the show for the chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.
Sue and Lampard will be returning to the NEC Arena on the evening of Sunday March 10th for the highly anticipated Crufts 2013 final. Only seven dogs make it all the way through to the final, which will be watched by thousands in the arena and millions more worldwide as it will be televised live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/crufts.
Proud owner Sue, who as a member of the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme, follows the high standards set by the scheme to ensure that all of her dogs have the best chance of a happy and healthy life, said: “From 7am when he had his bath to Best in Group: we are thrilled and absolutely in shock. As the Skye Terrier is a vulnerable breed, I am especially chuffed. I am so excited for Sunday, it’s indescribable.
“Lampard is a happy dog with a huge sense of humour. He is named after Frank Lampard as we are huge Chelsea fans and we have two other dogs named after our favourite team, Drogba and Chelsea. Chelsea is too young to show at the moment, but Drogba has also done well in the show ring. Although Chelsea haven’t had a good season so far we hope Lampard’s win will bring them luck.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We were delighted to see Lampard chosen as the Group winner today. He is such a lovely dog that clearly loves being in the show ring and has a great relationship with his handler.
“Reaching the Best in Show final at Crufts is a fabulous achievement for any dog, and we wish Lampard the very best for the final. I’m sure that all of Derbyshire and the Chelsea team will be tuning in to Channel 4 and rooting for them to win on Sunday evening.”
