Young obedience success at Crufts
Amy Sadler, 17 from Banbury in Oxford has won the Young Kennel Club’s Rebecca Pointer Award for her obedience work with Working Sheepdog, Thorpers Big Ben. Amy was presented with the memorial trophy by Barbara Pointer, mother of four year old Rebecca who had herself entered the obedience competition but died just before her fifth birthday.
Amy Sadler, who won the Graduate Obedience Award at last year’s Crufts, said: “I am so pleased to have won this award because I am retiring Ben next year and it is really rewarding for him to go out on a high.
“We have been working together for five years so I hope that my new Border Collie puppy can follow in his footsteps and be just as successful.”
Nathalie Webb, from Gloucestershire and her Shetland Sheepdog won second prize and Lydia Urquart-Smith, from Harrogate, scooped third place with her Border Collie.
The Young Kennel Club is for dog lovers aged between 6 and 24 and winners have all accumulated points after achieving success at shows throughout the year.
