Neil Morrissey kicks off Caring Crufts

by Heidi Ancell

Neil Morrissey on the Pedigree Stand in Hall 3Neil Morrissey, face of The Pedigree Adoption Drive, has kicked off the first day of Crufts at the Birmingham NEC with a heart-warming plea to help the nation’s 100,000 abandoned dogs.

Neil, speaking about his own experience as a rescue dog owner, urged people to spread the word about the campaign, which will see Pedigree raise half a million pounds that will be distributed by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust to dog rescue centres throughout the UK.

Neil said: “Crufts is the biggest dog event in the world so let’s go and do something fantastic for dogs. The Pedigree Adoption Drive is a wonderful campaign that will help to re-home abandoned dogs and highlight the message about responsible dog ownership.”

Ronnie Irving, Kennel Club Chairman also opened Crufts with a message about responsible dog ownership and choosing the right dog for the right owner.

People will be able to learn everything they need to know about dogs at Crufts, from registering your dog to learning about the recognisable characteristics of 190 different breeds of pedigree dog at the Discover Dogs stand.

More money has been raised for dogs in need by this year’s Crufts exhibitors, who have made a voluntary £1 donation to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust (KCCT) with their entries. Their donations have been matched by Crufts and, for the first time, Pedigree, to raise a sum of £17,454 for dog welfare charities – 40% more than in 2007 and the largest amount ever raised in this way at Crufts.
