by Helen Fox

The most important dog date for the diary has been announced and tickets are on sale now. Crufts, the world’s greatest dog show will be taking place from the 6th – 9th March 2008 at the NEC, Birmingham.

Officially recognised as the world’s largest dog show by the Guinness Book of Records, Crufts looks forward to expecting over 25,000 dogs, including around 1,000 dogs from overseas. The 2007 show saw over 153, 000 visitors.

Over the four days, the seven different pedigree dog groups are shown, and every day, as each group is judged, a Best in Group winner is chosen.

These Best in Group winners go on to compete in the grand finale on the last evening of the show for the ultimate title of Best in Show. The winner of the Best in Show class is the top dog in the world!

In addition to this world class contest, several other important canine competitions are set to take place, including the International Obedience, Agility and Heelwork to Music competitions. There will also be many exciting displays from other dog organisations and charities. Visitors will be spoilt for choice when they flock to this annual canine spectacular. Nearly 500 trade stands will be present, offering everything that you and your dog could possibly wish for, with many special Crufts discounts on offer.

Dog lovers and prospective owners will also get the chance to get up close and personal with 190 breeds of potential pedigree partners in the Discover Dogs area, where they can get expert guidance from handlers who will help them to find their own perfect match.

For those who would like to visit Crufts, tickets for the four days are on sale now from the Crufts website, or by phone on 0871 231 0826.

All media are invited to attend, and will be able to register online before the event from November on the Kennel Club website. More details to follow shortly, or contact the Kennel Club press office.
