Mirk's report from Day 2 of Crufts

Its been a really busy day today and we made some great new friends. Walking around Hall 3 we met Chushla, a Diabetes Hypo Alert Dog from the new Cancerdogs charity. It's pretty amazing how Chushla works, particularly since he started doing this work sponaneously in his role as a companion. He can actually tell his owner, Elizabeth, when her blood sugar drops to a dangerous level so that Elizabeth can take action to prevent it falling any further and collapsing. Chushla started simply by comforting Elizabeth when she had a Hypo, and then she started alerting her at the start of a Hypo without any formal training. Chushla has now become a fully qualified assistance dog having passed all her further training and assesment. Elizabeth told us that Chushla has given her the confidenc to lead a normal life and given her the freedom to go out whenever she wishes and Chushla wears her working jacket with pride!

Product Testing: The Weanafeeda tested by the Irish Wolfhound puppies at Bribaba

Weanafeeda, puppy feeding bowls, were reviewed for us by an Irish Wolfhound pack at Bribiba Irish Wolf hounds. They are carefully designed bowls that make sure all pups get their fair share and are perfect for training pups from early on to accept a persons hand in their bowl. The feed time photos that show it working say it all The pups said it worked out really well for them and everyone got their fair share. Even the kitten! Have a look at the Weanafeeda site at http://weanafeeda.com/, they will be at Crufts in Hall 4, stand number 118.

Crufts 2009 Day One

Day One:

We had to get up really early this morning but luckily the traffic was really easy. We got started with our iPhone on the way, twitting as Sue drove us all down and then on the way into the show with our Twitpic of the Sniffer Dog in Action checking visitors handbags. Just the right place to see a working dog in action while you are queuing to get into Crufts!

Coire's getting ready to take part in a special Good Citizen competition at Crufts

Scout: How did you get involved in the Good Citizen Dog Scheme ?

Coire: We got involved through training classes.  I originally did agility with my person, but I had an injury and was told I couldn’t do it any more – I think it’s ‘cause my person couldn’t keep up with me any more!  I didn’t like obedience much when I first had a go, but then we started going to pet classes with Aunty Pat (she’s judged the Championship at Crufts!).  We then started competition obedience training with Aunty Pat and Aunty Pam, and I enjoy this lots.

Murphy the Bearded Collie

My name is Murphy and I am a Tri coloured Bearded Collie X, my mum tells everyone that I have a lovely temperament great with people and other dogs, (What's not to like, people show me attention and give me treats and dogs like to play, but some are very moody. I am 16 months old, mums says I am a real teenager.

Jethro's getting ready for Crufts

Hi Scout

Everything has just got very busy all of a sudden. Crufts is looming up really quickly.
Mum will be there 3 days - Thursday, Saturday and Sunday as her training club are participating in the Good Citizen Dog Scheme displays, and I will be there too on the Sunday as part of the Dog Days Out area, talking about our favourite thing - hunting the clean boot.

Paws Awhile to Read

I’ve just been reading about an American Assistance Dog scheme called “Paws Awhile to Read” which has been helping children practice reading by reading to one of us four legged friends! http://www.tpoc.ca/PawToRead.asp

We're going to find out more about the microchipping campaign

Just had an email from the SOFA kids running the compulsory microchipping campaign. They are going to be at Crufts on Saturday so Palma and Lilly are going to interview them about their campaign.
