Most of us dogs are first and foremost family pets. We are happy when our humans are happy, and when they are sad we understand and are there for a cuddle. At Crufts I spoke to Celeste who is one of a very special group of dogs called PAT dogs. PAT dogs go to visit elderly folk who can’t have a dog of their own so they can get their share of doggy cuddles too.
I asked Celeste why she and her human had decided to become PAT dog visitors. Celeste said her human wanted to be sure that when she was old and couldn’t look after a dog herself there would be someone else who would let her share their dog from time to time so she ought to give a little bit of her time to helping other people first. Celeste told me that she sits with lots of different people and they all give her lots of cuddles and share their chocolate biscuits. Hmmm, I think I’ll have to speak to my human about this PAT dog scheme.
