In line with the Young Kennel Club strategic plan to increase its coverage of the UK, it has been agreed that more All Breed and Group Open and Championship shows should be given the opportunity to schedule YKC handling classes which qualify members for the final at DFS Crufts.
However as the number of handlers competing at Crufts cannot increase from the present size, it has been agreed that, in future, the YKC will only accept YKC qualifiers and will no longer be able to accept Junior Handling Association qualifiers from Open and Championship Shows. No show will therefore be allowed to qualify more than one winner in each age group per day.
This change will become effective for shows during 2011 qualifying for Crufts 2012. Therefore the 1st prize from any JHA classes held at Open and Championship Shows during 2010 which also hold YKC qualifying classes will still qualify for the YKC Handling Final at DFS Crufts 2011. All societies that currently hold JHA qualifiers are being contacted to communicate this decision.
Handlers will still have the opportunity to enter YKC Handling Classes at these events and we hope that the YKC classes will now be available in more areas of the country as a result.
If you run an All Breed or Group Open or Championship show and are interested in holding YKC handling classes which will qualify for DFS Crufts 2012, please contact the Vice Chairman of the YKC, Pat Dufty on 01775 840295 or email@example.com.
If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact the YKC office on 020 7518 1030. A list of clubs and societies which hold DFS Crufts handling qualifiers can be obtained from the YKC website, or by contacting the YKC office on the number above.
