Rebecca Pointer Memorial Award results at dfs Crufts

Young Kennel Club (YKC) members were rewarded for their achievements in Obedience at dfs Crufts as they were placed in the Rebecca Pointer Memorial Award competition.

Winner announced

Alexandra Duesbury from Derby was announced as the overall winner with her Working Sheepdog, Amber and was awarded the Rebecca Pointer Memorial Award 2011.

The annual competition is for YKC members aged from 8-18 years and the trophy is presented each year at dfs Crufts to the YKC member who has achieved the most with their dog in the world of obedience.

Alexandra who is sixteen years old, and her three year-old bitch, Amber took part in a number of events at dfs Crufts 2011 including YKC Obedience, Grooming and Heelwork to Music.

A word from the winner

Delighted to win the award Alexandra said: “Obedience is my main discipline and the sport that originally sparked my interest in dogs. Amber is simply a once in a lifetime dog - she’s fantastic and I love working in such a close partnership with her. Winning this award has made all our hard work and training worthwhile.”

Runners up in the Rebecca Pointer Competition were Natasha Kirk, Lydia Urquhart Smith, Chloe Connell and Caragh McGrath.

Young Kennel Club Manager Lucy Smith said: “Alexandra has attended a number of our events over the past few years and her hard work has paid off as this is the second year running we have seen her win an individual award at dfs Crufts.  Competition this year was strong, so I would like to congratulate everyone and their dogs for working so hard throughout the year.”
