Wish, a Border Collie and her owner Janet Thompson from Haydon Bridge, Northumberland have won the Kennel Club Novice Cup for large dogs at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts on Thursday 6th March.
Janet, who has been competing in agility for over ten years, and Wish, aged three, won in the large category after competing in both jumping and agility. They had the fewest combined faults in the fastest combined time, calculated over the two rounds of the final.
The top eight large, four medium and four small dogs from the Novice Cup competition (Grades 3, 4 or 5) held at the KC International Agility Festival last August took part in the finals on Thursday at Crufts.
Proud owner, Janet said: “I’m delighted to win at such a prestigious event and with such a young dog. Wish is a lovely dog. She is incredibly athletic but also incredibly affectionate – she loves nothing better than cuddles sitting on your lap.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “The Novice Cup is a special event and just to qualify for a Crufts final is a wonderful achievement.
“We would like to congratulate Wish and Janet. She is such a lovely dog that clearly loves competing and has a great relationship with her handler.”
Crufts takes place from 6 - 9 March 2014 at the NEC, Birmingham. For more information visit www.crufts.org.uk.
