Beating thousands of other dogs, Romeo (IT Ch Loch Mor Romeo), a Labrador Retriever from Cesara, Italy has qualified for the final of Crufts after winning Best in Group for the Gundog Group today (Saturday March 9th).
Romeo, 3, owned by Franco Barberi, will now compete for the prestigious title of Best in Show tomorrow against just six other dogs at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham. More than 20,000 dogs are competing over the four days of the show for the chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.
Franco and Romeo will be returning to the NEC Arena tomorrow evening, Sunday March 10th for the highly anticipated Crufts 2013 final. Only seven dogs make it all the way through to the final, which will be watched by thousands in the arena and millions more worldwide as it will be televised live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/crufts.
Proud owner Franco said: “It’s a dream for me, Crufts is such a big competition with so many good dogs. We had a 16 hour trip from Italy last night, but it was worth it, it’s incredible.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We were delighted to see Romeo chosen as the Group winner today. He is such a lovely dog that clearly loves being in the show ring and has a great relationship with his handler.
“Reaching the Best in Show final at Crufts is a fabulous achievement for any dog, and we wish Romeo the very best for the final. I’m sure that all of Italy will be tuning in to Channel 4 and rooting for them to win on Sunday evening.”
