Grantham Dog And Owner Win Two Heelwork To Music Finals At Crufts

Whizzy and her owner, Richard Curtis from Grantham, Lincolnshire have won the Heelwork to Music Freestyle Final and International Freestyle Competition at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts. Richard and Whizzy (Syka Delic Darnser) won the Heelwork to Music Freestyle Final, beating nine other finalists in the main arena at Crufts on Thursday 6th March, and then went on to also win the International Freestyle Competition on Saturday 8th March.

Richard Curtis is one of the UK’s leading heelwork to music handlers. He has won the Crufts freestyle final a total of four times, with Disco in 2006, Pogo in 2010 and 2011 and Whizzy in 2014. He has also won the International Freestyle Competition at Crufts in 2011 as well as this year. Performing their new cleaning windows routine, the pair won both competitions, making Richard the only person to have won four Heelwork to Music Freestyle finals at Crufts with three different dogs.

Richard also partnered up with Mary Ray to perform with her dog Levi in the main arena on the final evening of Crufts, shortly before the 2014 Crufts Best in Show winner was announced. Their performance was watched by 1.8million people on Channel 4. Gerald King, Crufts Chairman said: “Congratulations to Richard and Whizzy. To win for the fourth time is an incredible accomplishment. They are wonderful pair who clearly love competing together.”
