DFS Crufts Qualifiers come to Windsor

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing almost 9,500 dogs entered in the annual Windsor Dog Show Society Championship Dog Show at Windsor Home Park. This is the 60th time that the show, often referred to as the ‘Summer Crufts’, has taken place.

Over 160 breeds of pedigree dogs will compete from 1st to 4th July for the ultimate ‘Best in Show’ prize and for a chance to take part in the world’s largest dog show, DFS Crufts.

The show is one of 38 General Championship Dog Shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for DFS Crufts.

Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dogs, which are divided into seven groups. On Thursday 1st July visitors can see the Hound and Toy groups being judged, with the Terrier and Utility groups on Friday 2nd, Working and Pastoral breeds being shown on Saturday 3rd before the Gundog group rounds of the show on Sunday 4th.

This year, the Kennel Club will have a stand at the show, with staff on hand to answer any enquiries, and to help newcomers find out how they can get involved in dog showing.

Show Secretary, Mrs Irene Terry said: “The Windsor Championship Dog Show is a great day out for all the family. With over 60 trade stands and quality food vendors there is lots going on, both inside and outside the show rings. Last year’s event was one of the best so far, with our usual garden party atmosphere, inspiring dogs and many happy visitors. This year looks set to follow the standard our exhibitors and visitors expect from us.”

The show promises to be an interesting and entertaining weekend for all. Admission is £5, Senior Citizens and those under 14 years get in for free. Unfortunately no dogs, other than those that have been entered or Registered Assistance Dogs, are permitted in the show.

There will be a Hospitality Tent (Crèche) for dogs, operated by the Rottweiler Welfare Charity, available at the Show entrance as no animals are to be left in vehicles.
