dfs Crufts Qualifiers come to Brockenhurst

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing around 7,300 dogs entered in the Bournemouth Canine Association Championship Dog Show at New Park, Brockenhurst.

Over 150 different breeds of pedigree dogs will compete from 14 - 16 August for the ultimate ‘Best in Show’ prize and for a chance to take part in the world’s largest dog show, dfs Crufts.

The show is one of 38 General Championship Dog Shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for dfs Crufts.

Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups. On Saturday 14 August, visitors can see the Pastoral, Working and Terrier groups being judged, with the Gundog and Utility groups on Sunday 15 August, before the Hound and Toy breeds round off the show on Monday 16 August. The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Monday. To find out which group your favourite breed is in, please visit www.thekennelclub.org.uk/breedhealth.

Dog lovers of all ages will be in their element at the show, where the Young Kennel Club (YKC) will be hosting an Activity Weekend providing both new and experienced members with the opportunity to learn how to train their dogs and brush up their skills. Activities on offer include YKC Handling, the YKC Stakes and Junior Handling Association classes.

Show Secretary, Denise Courtney said “It will be a fantastic day out for the whole family as the show is set in the fantastic surroundings of the New Forest. Visitors will be able to see the wonderful collection of dog breeds and there will also be lots of different and unusual trade stands for visitors to peruse whilst they enjoy the show.”

Entry to the show is free and car parking is £5, but visitors are requested to leave their own dogs at home as non-competing dogs are not permitted into the event. Dogs must not be left in cars at the show.
