Steven Richardson and his dog, Libby from Wigton, Cumbria won the Kennel Club British Open for medium dogs on Thursday 6th March at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.
The international event saw the top large, medium and small dogs from different countries, which qualified at the Kennel Club International Agility Festival in August 2013, take to the ring to compete in the final.
Steven, aged 21 and Libby, aged seven won in the medium category after competing at Crufts in both jumping and agility. They had the fewest combined faults in the fastest combined time, calculated over the two rounds of the final.
This isn’t the first success for Steven; he has competed in agility for both England and Team GB.
Proud owner, Steven said: “I’m very shocked! I really didn’t expect it. This is my first time winning a major competition at Crufts.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “Top agility competitors from a range of different countries compete in agility at Crufts. The British Open is a unique event.
“We would like to congratulate Libby and Steven. She is such a lovely dog that clearly loves competing and has a great relationship with her handler.”
Crufts takes place from 6 - 9 March 2014 at the NEC, Birmingham. For more information visit www.crufts.org.uk.
