Crufts 2012 qualifiers come to Windsor

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing over 8,700 dogs and their owners as they take part in the Windsor Dog Show Society Championship Dog Show this weekend at Windsor Home Park.

More than 100 breeds will compete for the ultimate 'Best in Show' prize and for a chance to compete at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.

Windsor is one of 37 Group and General Championship Dog Shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for next year’s Crufts.

Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups.On Thursday 30th June, visitors can see the Terrier and Utility groups being judged, followed by the Working and Pastoral groups on Friday 1st July, Gundog group on the Saturday 2nd July and Hound and Toy groups on Sunday 3rd July.  The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Sunday. Good Citizen Dog Scheme classes

GCDS Bronze Award testing sessions will be open to show exhibitors and held throughout each day at a dedicated area within the showground. A fee of £2 per dog will be charged, and this will be donated to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust. There is no need to pre-book but handlers must bring with them a poop scoop bag, their dog’s grooming equipment and ensure their dog is wearing a collar and lead with the name and address of the owner written on it.

Good Citizen Dog Scheme classes are scheduled in each breed; these are open to all GCDS Bronze Achievers (as of show closing date). The Scheme has donated a rosette for the dog and bitch class winners in each breed.

Any Variety Good Citizen Dog Scheme Stakeswill be held on each day. The Stakes are open to all GCDS Bronze Achievers (as of show closing date). Prize Money 1st £50, 2nd £25, 3rd £10, 4th £5

Irene Terry, Secretary of Windsor Dog Show Society said: “The show is set in the lovely surroundings of Windsor Home Park on the banks of the River Thames in the historic town of Windsor and attracts people from all over the country as well as foreign visitors. Visitors will benefit from seeing the amazing show and the wonderful breeds present and can enjoy the great catering and over sixty trade stands, ideally located within walking distance of Windsor town for local facilities”.

Entry to the Windsor Dog Show Society Championship Dog Show is £5 for adult visitors and £3 for senior citizens and concessions. Children under 14 are admitted for free but must be accompanied by an adult.  Car parking for the show will be £5 per day.
