Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing more than 7,150 dogs and their owners as they take part in Darlington Dog Show Society Championship Dog Show this weekend at the beautiful stately Newby Hall near Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Around 185 breeds of pedigree dog will compete for the ultimate 'Best in Show' prize and for a chance to compete at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.
Darlington show is one of 37 Group and General Championship dog shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for next year’s Crufts.
Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups. On Friday 16th September, visitors can see the Hound, Terrier and Utility groups being judged, followed by the Working and Pastoral groups on Saturday 17th September and the Gundog and Toy groups on Sunday 18th September. The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Sunday. Dog lovers of all ages and interests will be catered for at the show, with Young Kennel Club Stakes being held over the weekend.
Darlington Dog Show Chairman, Sarah Allsopp commented: “This is a great day out for all as we have so much going on. As well as the championship show itself, there will also be lots of trade stands where visitors can find a variety of new products for their canine companions as well as themselves, and there will be plenty of food stalls around to keep the family going all day long.”
Non-competing dogs are welcome to come along with their families for a charge of £12 per dog. The organisers stress that under no circumstance are dogs to be left in cars.
