Crufts 2012 qualifiers come to Peterborough

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing over 7,400 dogs and their owners as they take part in the East of England Agricultural Society Championship Dog Show and Just Dogs Live event this weekend at the East of England Showground, Peterborough.

Over 140 breeds of pedigree dog will compete for the ultimate 'Best in Show' prize and for a chance to compete at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.

East of England is one of 37 Group and General Championship Dog Shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for next year’s Crufts.

Show schedule
Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups. On Friday 8th July, visitors can see the Gundog and Utility groups being judged, followed by the Working and Pastoral groups on Saturday 9th July and the Hound, Toy and Terrier groups on Sunday 10th July. The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Sunday. To find out which group your favourite breed is in, please visit www.thekennelclub.org.uk/dogbreedinformation.

Jill Broadberry, Secretary of the East of England Agricultural Society, said: “The Just Dogs Live event is not just a dog show – it is a chance for anyone to come and see their favourite breeds in action, whether that’s in the Championship dog show itself or the gundog or agility demonstrations. The show is a fantastic day out for the whole family, with lots of different and exciting activities going on throughout the weekend – it’s definitely one not to miss!”

Jill also stresses the importance of never leaving dogs in cars and says “It is crucial that no one leaves dogs in cars; any dogs found left in cars in distress at the show will cause remedial action to be taken. Dogs can overheat even if windows are left open or air-conditioning is on, so it is better to avoid it completely.”

Get involved
Entry to the East of England Agricultural Society Championship Dog Show is £5.50 for adult visitors, £4.50 for senior citizens, and £3.50 for children between the ages of 5 and 16. Visitors can save £1 if they buy their tickets by 5th July. Car parking for the show is free of charge.
