Crufts 2012 qualifiers come to Edinburgh

Dog lovers are invited to come along to enjoy the experience of seeing nearly 5,000 dogs and their owners as they take part in the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Dog Show this weekend at the Royal Highland Showground in Ingliston, Edinburgh.

Over 120 breeds of pedigree dog will compete for the ultimate 'Best in Show' prize and for a chance to compete at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.

The Scottish Kennel Club show is one of 37 Group and General Championship dog shows licensed by the Kennel Club throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for next year’s Crufts.

Each day will host different breeds of pedigree dog, which are divided into seven groups. On Saturday 27th August, visitors can see the Working, Pastoral, Utility and Toy groups being judged, followed by the Gundog, Terrier and Hound groups on Sunday 28th August. The seven group winners will then compete for the prestigious Best in Show award at the climax of the show on Sunday. To find out which group your favourite breed is in, please visit www.thekennelclub.org.uk/breedhealth.

Dog lovers of all ages and interests will be catered for at the show, with Young Kennel Club Stakes and Junior Handling Association classes being held over the weekend.

Scottish Kennel Club Secretary, Myra Orr said: “Along with the breed classes, we also have many different things going on including agility and obedience. Visitors will also be able to see a variety of trade stands which offer different products and helpful information.”

Admission is £5 for adults; £3 concession; and a Family Ticket is £12 for 2 adults and up to 2 children.

Visitors are asked to leave their dogs at home as any un-entered dogs are not permitted at the show. The organisers also stress that under no circumstance are dogs to be left in cars.
