Ginny, a four year old Border Collie and owner Claire Arend from Yaxham, Norfolk have won the Kennel Club Novice Cup for large agility dogs at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts on Thursday 7th March.
Claire and Ginny (KC name Delanor Golden Snitch) won in the large category after competing in both jumping and agility as they had the fewest combined faults in the fastest combined time, calculated over the two rounds of the final.
The top eight large, four medium and four small dogs from the Novice Cup competition (Grades 3, 4 or 5) held at the KC International Agility Festival last August took part in the finals on Thursday at Crufts.
Proud owner Claire who has been competing in agility for over 12 years said: “This is our first time at Crufts and to win is a wonderful feeling, I’m so overwhelmed. Ginny worked amazingly well and coped brilliantly with the crowd. As soon as we got in the arena she got so focused. I still don’t think it’s sunk in just yet.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “The Novice Cup is a special event and just to qualify for a Crufts final is a wonderful achievement.
“We would like to congratulate Ginny and Claire. She is such a lovely dog that clearly loves competing and has a great relationship with her handler.”
Crufts takes place from 7 - 10 March 2013 at the NEC, Birmingham. For more information visit www.crufts.org.uk
